'Moon Cake' Tutorial (Super Easy)

I know, I know...Mid autumn festival is over for weeks and now I am posting this tutorial. Well, I was too caught up with work and didn't had the time to post. Better late than never (at least that's what I tell myself).

This is the simplest tutorial I can think of as long as you have the mooncake mold.

It looks very much like a mooncake except that it is a sandwich!!!
As I said, it is a super easy tutorial if you have the right tools. Using the top brown piece of bread, use the round cutter and cut out the bread.

Next, use the mooncake mold to 'print' on the bread. Yes! it is that simple!

You should get something below.

I used 3 slices of bread(including the top brown slice) to give the bread height of a mooncake. YOu can add at fillings you desire.

Finally, I added a piece of 'zhu zai' to the box. Platter up with fruits and it is ready to go.
Mooncake cheats! Hahaha...

Rabbit Sandwich 2017 Tutorial (Level : Difficult)

When it comes to cutting seaweed for sandwiches, I will always put the level as difficult because it requires a lot of patience and care. The seaweed will be thin and flimsy, easily breakable at times and you need to be careful when handling the cut out seaweed pieces.

Tools Required -
1. A pair of sharp scissors
2. A pair of tweezers
3. A small straw
4. A butter knife

Ingredients Needed -
1. Two slices of bread
2. Breading filling of choice ( ham & cheese for this tutorial)
3. Dried seaweed
4. A dab of strawberry jam

I always make the sandwiches using the same method. Find a picture, draw the picture on a piece of paper and cut out it. For this sandwich, I used the cut out as a guide to cut my bread to the same shape. You can use the scissors or the knife to cut out the shape, whichever more comfortable to you). After that I used the dried seaweed and painstaking cut out the seaweed to form the outline of the rabbit, including the eyes and nose. I was so busy cutting and placing the seaweed that I forgot to take any pictures. My bad!

As shown in the picture, I used the straw (in red) to make the round dot on the rabbit's eyes.
Finding the cheese was too thick, I cut it into halves and placed it on the rabbit's eyes.

Once you are done, you should get something like that.

As the bottom slice of bread need not be so precise in shape, it was only a very rough outline and you couldn't even see the bunny shape. Just need to use scissor or the knife to trim the bread to get the shape.
Place the ham and cheese between the bread and trim away the excess like what you did for the bottom slice of bread.
Pointers to Note : I do not like to throw away food so I put the excess bits back into the sandwich

I added some cheek colors to the rabbit using some strawberry jam. You can use the butter knife to do it but I used a chopstick to dab the 'blusher' on the rabbit instead.
I have added two quail eggs, sauce and some fruits to the box.
This should be your completed work!
Have a great day ahead!

Pikachu Sandwich Again

I am so not done with Pikachu. I did 3 sketches and this is the 2nd one. I made this last week but didn't have the time to share it.

My kids are now known as Pikachu killers by their classmates when their classmates saw my kids eating their sandwiches. Hahahaha....

Anyway, the method to make this sandwich is the same as the Pikachu tutorial that I shared earlier on. The only different is that I used ham to create the tongue.
I made ham and cheese sandwich and added quail eggs and grapes into the box.
This is the sketch that I used for making the sandwich.
I will not write another tutorial post on this since it is basically the same method used for the first Pikachu sandwich. However, I will still share some pictures for making this sandwich here.
Creating the Pikachu on the slice of yellow cheese and I made two Pikachu for my two kids.

My kids find this Pikachu cuter but they are all the same to me.

Pokemon Go - Pikachu Sandwich

It is Mid Autumn Festival today. I was torn between making a Pikachu sandwich or a mooncake sandwich for the kids. Since I promised the kids another Pokémon sandwich, I decided to go along with Pikachu. Pikachu is one of their favorite and it is relatively simple to do. I will share the tutorial in another post.

I made a few sketches of Pikachu and decided to start with the simplest one. I used a toothpick to outline the cheese, thus creating the Pikachu's head. I did this the night before so that I could catch a few more winks in the morning. Just slap the cheese on sandwich in the morning and it is done.

The recess box consisted of an egg, some grapes and a mochi. I wanted to turn the egg into a Pokeball but I didn't have the time.
Anyway, Happy Mid Autumn Festival!!!

Fast Bunny Sandwich for the Morning Rush

It's been quite a while since I made sandwich. On and off I still prepare food for my kids just that I find nothing interesting to post. Today, I decided to complete the sandwich box from scratch within the time limited during morning rush.

I always suggest the prep work to be done the night before. For this sandwich today, I didn't even prepare anything at all...nothing at all. It took me a good 20mins to prepare the 2 sandwiches.

Steps-
First thing is to boil the eggs and set the 8mins timer. After that, wash a plate and the rabbit sandwich mold, followed by taking out the ham, cheese and jam from the fridge. Next, I took out my sandwich box, the dried seaweed and the seaweed puncher. Wipe the sandwich box with wet tissues to make sure it is clean.
Throw the ham and cheese with bread and cut with the mold. Punch seaweed and use the jam to stick to the bread and apply 'blusher' to the rabbit. I started peeling the eggs after I was done with the bread.

To my horror, I realized that I didn't have any fruits for the kids so I raid my cupboard for snacks to fill the box.

It is as easy and quick as described.

Try it!

Happy weekend!!!

Seal Sandwich

My kids wanted a Mamegoma sandwich and I made it last Monday for them to bring to school. I was too busy to upload the pictures with a tutorial on it.

I saw a similar sandwich somewhere but decided to create my own since it is not the first time I made a Mamegoma seal sandwich.

I will share the tutorial on this sandwich in another post.

The kids were happy to have cute sandwiches again!

Exam! Aces for All Subjects

This week is the exam week and my kiddos are having a paper each day from Monday to Thursday. I can only hope they can score and I try not to stress them too much. Anyway, they don't seem to be too worried. I am the only who is stressed.

I made 4 Aces sandwiches or them today hoping that they can score 4 aces for the 4 subjects!!! Hahaha…
I know they love candy so I added bits of candy for the red heart and red diamond sandwiches. The other two sandwiches are actually peanut butter but I put a piece of dried seaweed for the color. I was in a rush this morning trying to cut and piece the aces on the sandwiches and forgot to add fruits. I added mashmallow and a packet of nuts to go along.

I pray they can score for the papers this week to make up for the drop last semester. *Fingers crossed*

Happy 50th Birthday Singapore

Long weekend is over....

One of my kids was asking me why I didnt make them a National Day sandwich this year. The small one didn't want the usual Singapore flag sandwich(that I have been making them every Auguest for the last couple of years) so I have to come up with something else this year, besides it is the Golden Jubilee we are talking about.

Initially I really didn't know what to do for their sandwich but I came across their school folder while nagging them to lee their homework. The folder was full of iconic landscapes for Singapore and the idea was born.

I spent almost an hour last night trying to cut the dried seaweed and I only managed to squeeze in the Merlion, Singapore Flyer and Marina Baysand. I wanted to add Changi airport too(because it is easy to cut) but was limited by the size of the cheese. Oh...the two flower thingy on top are suppose to be fireworks. Not sure if my kids got it.

I cut SG50 on the seaweed and pasted it on the egg and top off with Singapore flag. Hey, I DO really really love my tiny country de loh and very proud to be her citizen leh.

The final product for the kids.  I used two different color of cheese just to see which one will turn out better. I think the lighter shade is more outstanding.
Happy 50th Birthday Singapore and many many more to come!!!

Easy Rabbit Sandwich Tutorial

I have prepared buns from bakery for my kids to bring to school today but they wanted me to make them a sandwich. I have been buying buns quite often this month because of a flu bug(a lazy bug is more likely...hehehe...). So I decided to make a easy sandwich for them today.

Stuff required to make the bunny sandwich:
1.Bread
2.Bread filling of your choice
3.Colored paper
4.Toothpicks
5.Cheese
6.Dried seaweed
7.Strawberry jam
Can your spot the differences?

Steps:

1. To make the rabbit ears, cut colored paper and stick it to toothpicks using double sided tape.

2. Using a bubble tea straw, make a small circle for the rabbit nose.

3. Cut seaweed to form the eyes and nose of the rabbit.

4. Apply blusher to the sandwich using a dab of strawberry jam.

And that's all your need to do.

I bought a cute egg case and put the egg inside. Complete with sauce, packet nuts, a candy and also a packet of milk for recess.

It's Friday! And it's the last day of the month!!! Hurray!!!

Easy Animal Sandwich

It has been more than 2 weeks since I last posted. I was feeling abit under the weather and subsequently my small one fell sick. They have to stay back in school today so I made the effort to make them a sandwich to bring along.

Last week, I visited a new shop that was similar to my favorite $2 shop and bought some cookie cutters. The cutters are so cute that I just want to use them on my kids' sandwiches. There is an elephant, a rabbit and a bear in the set. I made used of all three simply by cutting on cheese.

The sandwich was quite bare so I decided to add a rainbow candy on top.  I used a toothpick to cut the clouds in the cheese. I was too lazy to cut any seaweed since the cutters are cute enough.

Peanut butter filling with the cute animal friends with a colorful rainbow candy. I did not have any suitable fruits for their sandwich box so I replaced with a packet of nuts.

Happy Tuesday!

My Little Pony - Kids' Latest Craze

June holiday is finally over!!!  I was feeling lazy to make sandwiches yesterday but I got my act together last night. A long break may not be a good thing, haha…

One of my kids' favorite cartoon now is My Little Pony. I wanted to make a pony sandwich for them because I managed to dig out a pony cutter from the cupboard.

I googled and saw the picture of a yellow pony with pink mane call Fluttershy but I didn't have the necessary color for the mane. When my kids knew that I wanted to give Fluttershy a color change, they gave me an earful last night, explaining the different characters and the colors to the extent that they wanted me to make the sandwich WHEN I have the correct color for the mane. Gosh!

Anyway, I decided to proceed despite their objections.

I used peanut butter jam for the filling and a layer of cheese on top to create the pony. The mane is made up of colorful strips of candy and I painstaking cut the eyes using dried seaweed and added blue to the pony's eye(in order to pacify my kids for the change in mane color).

Anyway, I told them I will buy the pink strawberry flavored candy if I am ever making this again. It is very time consuming as I took half an hour to prep the cheese.
Their sandwich boxes are filled with candies today and not something I am very proud of. I even add star gummy because I really do not have anything else to add into the box. I have instructed them to share the biscuits and candies with their friends. They love it! Because it is filled with candies to satisfy their sweet tooth.

Time for me to do some grocery shopping!

Tutorial - Funny Faces Sandwich (Super Easy)

I did a super simple and fast sandwich today. In fact, it required no prior preparation work. I prepared the two boxes all within a short span of 15 minutes in the morning.

I used multi-grain bread today for a change and just slap on ham and cheese.

They wanted to bring some store-bought madelines as well so in they went into the boxes together with a jelly and some fruits.

Stuff Required to Create the Funny Face Sandwich -
1. Bread + fillings of your choice
2. One big marshmallow
3. Dried seaweed
4. A pair of scissor or dental floss
5. Food Pick (optional)

STEPS -
1. Fill bread with desired fillings of your choice.
2. Using dental floss or the scissor, cut the marshmallow to thin layers to create the eyes. Dental floss cuts better than the scissors giving a smooth and even cut and no sticky residue on the blades. Just tie the floss around the marshmallow and give it a gentle pull on both ends and it will cut across the marshmallow smoothly.
3. Cut the seaweed for the eyes. You can form any facial expression you like. So get creative!
I made two different expressions for my kids today and the marshmallow was really well received. I was told their classmates wanted to pilfer their marshmallows, hahaha…

Next time I will make an alien monster with many marshmallow eyes and there will be enough to go around.
