Tutorial - Funny Faces Sandwich (Super Easy)

I did a super simple and fast sandwich today. In fact, it required no prior preparation work. I prepared the two boxes all within a short span of 15 minutes in the morning.

I used multi-grain bread today for a change and just slap on ham and cheese.

They wanted to bring some store-bought madelines as well so in they went into the boxes together with a jelly and some fruits.

Stuff Required to Create the Funny Face Sandwich -
1. Bread + fillings of your choice
2. One big marshmallow
3. Dried seaweed
4. A pair of scissor or dental floss
5. Food Pick (optional)

STEPS -
1. Fill bread with desired fillings of your choice.
2. Using dental floss or the scissor, cut the marshmallow to thin layers to create the eyes. Dental floss cuts better than the scissors giving a smooth and even cut and no sticky residue on the blades. Just tie the floss around the marshmallow and give it a gentle pull on both ends and it will cut across the marshmallow smoothly.
3. Cut the seaweed for the eyes. You can form any facial expression you like. So get creative!
I made two different expressions for my kids today and the marshmallow was really well received. I was told their classmates wanted to pilfer their marshmallows, hahaha…

Next time I will make an alien monster with many marshmallow eyes and there will be enough to go around.

Sweet Little Girl Wearing a Head Scarf

The kids requested for a cute bunny sandwich again! But I decided against it. I wanted to make something different for my kiddos today. I made a little girl wearing a yellow head scarf. It is like two little girls' sandwich for my two little girls.

It was bread with ham and cheese filling and I used a round ring to cut the yellow cheese to form a head scarf. Added a bow and dried seaweed for the fringe and facial expression and I was done. It was quite simple and didn't take long.

I bought some Easter egg casing in form of a rabbit head from my favorite shop last week. Finally I am using it today with all things rabbit. I have jelly with rabbit stickers, rabbit sauce container and the rabbit egg casing.
I don't have to think of how to decorate the plain egg anymore. I guess I will be using the egg casing quite often from now on. Must make full use of my purchase, right? Hee…
Really very sweet little girl sandwich, just like my little girls!

Lotsa love!

Tsum Tsum Minnie Mouse Sandwich

Finally exam week is over and life gets back to norm. I only made a sandwich last week and did offer to make a Mickey Mouse sandwich for them. They wanted a Minnie Mouse sandwich instead but asked me to do it after exam. When probed, they said I already woke up early the day before to make Miffy the Rabbit sandwich for them so I must be feeling tired. How sweet! Feel the love! :)
Mickey vs Minnie

Today, I made Tsum Tsum Minnie Mouse sandwich as promised. This sandwich took quite some time to make. I used those small rectangle pieces of dried seaweed and not the big pieces meant for sushi roll. Therefore, I needed more time to piece the seaweed together. One ear was made-up of 2 pieces of semi-circle dried seaweed. The differences between Mickey and Minnie were the long eyelashes and the big bow on Minnie's head.

I added chocolate fillings to the bread and instead of a bow, I gave Minnie a tiara instead(because I did not have the time to make one! Hee…).
I have to admit that I was too greedy trying to squeeze so much food into the box. The ears were supposed to be placed lower to look more like the character but I was really out of space. I put a jelly with Minnie sticker, an egg and some grapes. I really wish I could squeeze in more grapes for the kids!
Minnie sandwich is too cute to be eaten
They will be bringing food to school everyday this week because they are saving up their pocket money to buy a toy they have been eyeing before exam. They have been bugging me to get it for them some time before the exam but I refused. Can you imagine if I get them the toy before exam? All hell break loose!!! Hahaha….

They are so loved and always get lots of toys on special occasions(birthdays, X'mas etc) and now even the government is giving them a set of Lego toy each(applies to all primary school kids in Singapore)! *sweat*

Sometimes, I think they do not know how to cherish what they have. I am making them save up for this particular toy, hoping that they will learn to cherish it because they made an effort to save up for it. I shall wait and see!

Miffy the Rabbit

This week is exam week and frankly, I am in no mood to make any sandwiches. I feel more stressed than my kids when they are having exam and I try my best not to show it. The kids wanted a Miffy Rabbit sandwich with chocolate cereal crunch filling today and I am more than happy to oblige. Miffy is not difficult to make. With my rabbit mold, all I need is to cut out eyes and a 'X' on the dried seaweed.

I made two different expression, not sure which one looks more authentic. Miffy the Rabbit signature 'X' mouth is distinct but the eyes…I am not so sure. I let the kids be the judge. Haha…
Miffy with Oval Shaped Eyes
Miffy with Round Eyes
Anyway, the small one said Miffy should have oval shaped eyes and told me Miffy needs a Tiara and so I added a food pick to it. Anything that pleases them. After all, they are my customers.

Fingers crossed. Two more papers to go after today.
*sweat*

Panda…Today is a Panda Sandwich

I made a Panda sandwich today. I didn't intend to make any sandwich for them today but they requested for it so the lazy me took out the cutter(as usual). No Kungfu Panda, but still a panda using a bread cutter.

I used Nutella chocolate filling for the bread and the face for the panda. It looked quite plain without any chocolate on the face so I painstakingly used some toothpicks to apply the chocolate to the face. Looked much better and more like a panda with all the chocolate on the face.
I didn't add any fruits to the box this week as I didn't have any suitable fruits for them to bring. I must must must remember to buy fruits tomorrow!

Sandwiches for April 2015

Sandwiches for April 2015
April was a lazy month for me. I didn't come up with many creations and in fact repeated the buns and croissants sandwich because they were just too convenient, not to mention the use of sandwich cutters too!

I think my favorite is the Mamegoma seal but my big one preferred the Croissant Monster and the small one voted for the Decks of Cards, perhaps it was more colorful.

Anyway, I will try to make more cute sandwiches for my kids next month!

Promise! Promise!

What Animal Is This?

Start of a new month and exam is here soon. Stress…Stress….Stress….

The kids wanted a bunny sandwich AGAIN but I thought otherwise. I saw a really cute picture of a raccoon on a baby toy and decided to make it into a sandwich. I drew the picture on a piece of paper and cut out the seaweed on the cheese. I gathered all my round and circular molds to create the raccoon eyes and nose on the cheese. Took me awhile to cut the seaweed and I was wondering if the final product would turn out cute.

As usual, I used my trusty round mental ring again cut the bread that was filled with peanut butter jam.

I personally find it very adorable. However, my kids didn't know what the animal was. One thought it was a panda and the other said it was a bear wearing eye mask. *sweat*

I told them it is supposed to be a raccoon!!!

This sandwich is definitely not Kung Fu Panda wannabe, ok! It is a RACCOON!
It gives me the inspiration to make a panda sandwich for the kids next time.
Raccoons or bears, they are just adorable!
